After-School Clubs

After School Clubs are currently in session for the year.  Any students who submitted a registration form and were not chosen in the lottery for the first session are on a waiting list.  There will be another session in January. Any students who did not have the opportunity to participate in the first session and submit a registration form for the second session by the deadline will receive first consideration in the lottery.

This year 7 Bar Elementary will be offering after school clubs, free of charge, for interested students.  The 2018 clubs are as follows:

Running Club - The Wrangler Runners: Running can be a sport, an adventure, an avenue to better your grades, or a way to become happier and enjoy a longer life. The more you run, the more fun and rewarding it becomes. Running provides many valuable life-learning tools that can harness the development of a child right through into adulthood. For example: better concentration for academic work, the building of confidence, time management skills and working towards goals.  Students will develop healthy running habits (form, breathing, pacing, body awareness), develop lifelong healthy habits, build confidence, develop positive social interaction and complete a 5k (Road Race and/or at school in December).

Grades 1 through 5 on Mondays from 2:00 to 3:00 pm

Book Club: Students will read new and favorite books, write out book recommendations, create digital book trailers and whatever other fun ideas students may come up with for sharing literature.

Grade 4-5 on Mondays from 2:00 to 3:00 pm

Jump Rope Club: This fun fitness activity will teach your child individual, partner and long rope jumping skills.  The focus of this club is teamwork, fun and personal fitness.

Grades K through 2 on Tuesdays and grades 3 through 5 on Thursdays from 2:00 to 3:00 pm

Arts and Crafts Club: The arts & crafts after school club will focus on exploring a variety of art modalities to create weekly projects. Students will create projects with paints, colored pencils, markers, Paper Mache, beads, mosaic designs, stamping materials, construction paper, and card stock.

The club will be open to students in grades K, 1st and 2nd for 6 sessions: September 18 – October 23 and grades 3rd, 4th, and 5th for 6 sessions: October 30 – December 11 on Tuesdays from 2:00 to 3:00 pm

Lego Club: You bring your imagination, and we’ll provide the LEGOs! Students may work as a team or on their own to build unique LEGO creations.

Grades 4 through 5 on Thursdays from 2:00 to 3:00 pm

Cooking Club-Simmering at Seven Bar: A new after school project that will focus on creating nutritional dishes and beverages for your child to make and try at school! Cooking is a life skill, and we know all kids like to eat! This program will introduce their young minds to the world of culinary arts. Students will have the opportunity to cook with their friends and explore flavors outside of their comfort zone. The class will demonstrate the skills needed to properly prepare various ingredients in a controlled environment, reinforcing mathematics, reading comprehension and following directions.

Grades 3 through 5 on Thursdays from 2:00 to 3:30 pm

Gardening and Nutrition Club: Are you interested in learning about how to eat healthy foods you grow yourself? Have you ever wondered what it takes for a plant to be healthy? Do you know how certain foods grow? Can you find ways to be healthier by eating fresh foods? Would you like to play in the dirt? Learn these things and a whole lot more by joining the Gardening and Nutrition for a Healthy Life Club at Seven Bar. We are looking for eager elementary students to work in a garden, learn about healthy living and nutrition, grow delicious plants, and enjoy the harvest through hands-on gardening and activities.

Grades 2 through 5 on Thursdays from 2:00 to 3:00 pm

Learners Chess Academy: Learners Chess Academy is an Albuquerque-area educational program with the mission to enhance child development by using the game of chess to promote and stimulate intellectual maturity, social skills, and leadership development. Our vision is a New Mexico where all kids have the opportunity to grow through learning the game of chess.

We do not just teach kids chess, we teach them to learn by compassionately leading them through the process of paying attention and drawing on their experiences. Furthermore, we teach leadership development skills to encourage players to communicate and to teach each other what they know and how they learn.

Grades 1 through 5 on Tuesdays from 1:50 to 3:05 pm

7 Bar Student Council: Do you want to make a difference? Are you interested in joining 7 Bar Elementary School’s Student Council? We are looking for students who possess strong leadership skills, exhibit good academic standards, and demonstrate exemplary citizenship characteristics to campaign for officer positions. Grade Level Representative Positions (K-5): These are positions of responsibility. Representatives will represent both the students in their class as well as the students in the school. Officer Positons (4th and 5th): President, Vice President, Historian, Secretary and Treasurer.

Students will campaign for these elected positions.  Interest forms were distributed last week and are due on Wednesday, September 5, 2018.  Please see Mrs. Rodriguez (room D-3) or Ms. Rennard (room C-1) to pick up an interest form if you did not already receive one. No late forms will be accepted. Once elected, student council members will meet on Fridays from 2:00 to 3:00 pm.

Participation in clubs will be chosen by lottery.  Students may participate in one club only.  All clubs (except for Learners Chess Academy and 7 Bar Student Council which run the full school year) are fall clubs and will start the week of September 17 through December 14, 2018.
